Ljus-ren vid Covent Garden
In the middle of November you
can feel the Christmas feeling in London. One of the cosiest places to stroll
around at Christmas time is Covent Garden. There are a lot of nice Christmas decorations
and a lot of cosy alfresco dining that is open all year and where you can drink
hot chocolate or mulled wine. You can often hear Christmas music during this
time of year and there are often choirs singing carols at the piazza. There are
also many activities for children like for example making Christmas decorations
and on Saturdays they can pet Santa’s reindeers. An event that takes place in
the beginning of December every year is The Great Christmas Pudding Race. People
dress up and run around Covent Garden carrying a Christmas pudding. I don’t know
why they do it but the money they collect goes to cancer research. I don’t recommend
that you take the subway if you want to go to Covent Garden and get off at
Covent Garden tube station, especially not around Christmas. It is always a lot
of people in the area and the station is the smallest possible. It is better to
get off at Holborn or Leicester Square and take a walk, it is a lot of nice
places on the way. You can also take the bus, there are a lot of alternatives,
and if you get off at The Strand it only take a couple of minutes to walk. From
Leicester Square it is a 10-15 minutes’ walk.
